For more than 30 years, Old 97’s have earned their reputation as a must-see live band, turning their Dallas-bred alt-country roots into a high-voltage, onstage experience that’s as loose as it is relentless. Emerging in the early ’90s with Hitchhike to Rhome, they quickly became known for shows that push songs beyond their recorded forms; faster, louder, and fueled by the kind of chemistry only decades of touring can build. That same instinct-driven spirit carries through later work like American Primitive, reflecting a band that thrives in the moment, where tempos shift, edges stay rough, and no two performances feel exactly alike. Equal parts controlled chaos and deep musical connection, their concerts capture a veteran group still playing with urgency, risk, and the unfiltered energy that first defined them.
