Back in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, the 'boy band' phenomenon was in full bloom in the U.S. Here in the Northeast, we had a Boy Band of our own that was starting to gain traction. They were called Dream Street and were made up of a group of talented young teens, which included Pleasantville’s Matt Ballinger. They quickly landed themselves a record deal, toured, and grew a sizable following thanks to catchy hit songs like “It Happens Every Time“ and “Sugar Rush”. Unfortunately, legal issues resulted in the band dissolving, prompting most of the members to go on and begin other careers, start families and otherwise live normal, non-pop star lives.
After learning of the 2020 passing of one of the band’s founding members, the other four members became closer than ever. Last year, Matt Ballinger and South Salem’s Greg Raposo, got back on stage after a 20-year hiatus. With the addition of some talented new band members, this current iteration of Dream Street now brings a fresh, acoustic take to the group’s beloved songs which has resulted in sold-out shows up and down the East Coast. It seems that the dedicated fan base that treasured the group’s infectious melodies and youthful energy over 20 years ago are still out there, alive and well.
