Similar Kind, from Norwalk, Connecticut, will grace this year’s Party Stage with their alt-pop sounds, groove-driven arrangements, and evocative lyrics. Formed seven years ago less than an hour from Pleasantville, this band’s music has continuously evolved, merging a groovy retro sound with more modern alt-pop synth textures.
Their high energy, constant motion, certainty in themselves and each other as band-mates, and strong stage presence create a live performance that draws the audience in more and more with every note. An origin as a small group of friends rehearsing in a garage in Connecticut allows them to create a uniquely intimate experience, even after their shift to stage performances for large audiences. Their unparalleled stage-presence and vibrant energy turns their act into a party for all to enjoy, complete with harmony between competing strong instrumentals, compelling lyrics, and a wonderful blending of genres.
Their tight performances reflect years of collaboration, rehearsal, and a comfort on stage that encourages audiences to really engage with the music. Lead vocalist Julia Breen, bassist Prunce Porter, drummer Miles Domionici, guitarist Ben McNamara, keyboardist Jake James, and saxophonist Matt Oriente seem to feed off of each others’ high spirits and energy in each performance, filling a room with high vibrational excitement.
